ABOUT
No Sinner’s sound bears a trustworthiness of timbre and melody that’s easy to fall in love with. The music speaks the native tongue of blues, rock and soul. The songs tell the timeless tales of relationship dysfunction. But the persona is unique to this moment in pop. Twenty-four year-old lead singer/songwriter Colleen Rennison carries with her the burden of someone who has lived, loved and lost—requisite experience for the genres she works in—but communicates in the weird mixed-language of millennial Vancouver: a creole of rugged Canadiana and rap vernacular.
Her band is the product of “musician russian roulette” at jam nights in bars in Vancouver’s Gas Town, where she met co-writer Parker Bossley (Hot Hot Heat) through drummer Ian Brown. Matt Camirand (Black Mountain) was an old friend from the music scene. And after a messy evening playing with guitarist, Eric Campbell—and losing track of him at the end of it—Colleen vowed he would be in her band, going so far as to call every Campbell in the North Vancouver Yellow Pages to find him. Within months of formalizing the band, No Sinner was quickly backed by a brilliant team of friends and professionals, filling the positions of engineer, video director, graphic and merchandise designer, booking agent, manager and publicist. “There are so many talented people in my life,” says Rennison, “we scratch each other’s backs.”
No Sinner recently released their debut 7” single “Boo Hoo Hoo” / “Love is Madness.” The video for “Boo Hoo Hoo” quickly broke over 20,000 YouTube hits, gaining local and worldwide acclaim from mainstream press and independent blogs alike. No Sinner releases their 7-song EP on First Love Records, April 24th 2012, with a summer tour to follow.
